Strike Force Trident have charged three youths following the theft of a motor vehicle.
Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Stringer said around 10:00pm on 31 August the three youths allegedly stole a Toyota Hilux valued at $45,000 from a residence in Gunn.
“At 8:30am yesterday, the vehicle was sighted and followed by members to a residence in Karama where the youths parked and exited the vehicle.
“Members approached the youths, resulting in two surrendering and one fleeing on foot; he was arrested a short time later.
“All youths were interviewed in relation to the stolen Hilux, and the separate theft of a motor vehicle from a property in Leanyer on Friday 28 August.”
The males, aged 12, 13 and 15 years old were jointly charged with:
- Aggravated unlawful use of a motor vehicle (x6)
- Stealing (x15)
- Drive motor vehicle whilst unlicensed (x3)
The 15-year-old was charged with possession of cannabis and trespass. He was further interviewed in relation to the whereabouts of a stolen firearm. The firearm was later recovered at a residence in Gray.
All youths will appear in Darwin Youth Justice Court tomorrow.
“These crimes are usually opportunistic, and this is a timely reminder for members of the public to lock their vehicles and keep keys and valuables out of sight.” said Detective Senior Sergeant Stringer.
