Youths Arrested – Alice Springs

NT Police have arrested two youths following the theft of a vehicle in Alice Springs and damage to three other vehicles over the weekend.

Three female offenders allegedly stole a brand new Holden Colorado that was parked at a hotel on Barrett Drive about 9:30 on Friday night. After driving the vehicle around Alice Springs at speeds of up to 130km/h, they crashed into a traffic light on Todd Street. Two offenders allegedly ran away at this point, and the third was able to restart the vehicle, which was later abandoned in Charles Creek.

Two of the youths were located on Saturday night in the Alice Springs CBD and arrested.

A 16-year-old girl was charged with:

  • Aggravated unlawful use of motor vehicle
  • Interfere with motor vehicle
  • Stealing
  • Drive unlicensed
  • Drive at dangerous speed
  • Drive under the influence of alcohol
  • Fail to obey direction of police officer

A 14-year-old girl was charged with:

  • Aggravated unlawful use of motor vehicle
  • Damage to property
  • Drive without due care
  • Drive unlicensed
  • Drive at dangerous speed
  • Drive under the influence of alcohol
  • Not stop after crash
  • Breach bail

Bail has been refused with both appearing in the Alice Springs Youth Justice Court this morning (2 November 2015).

The third female, aged 15, who was believed to be involved in the theft of the vehicle remains outstanding.
