Detectives from Strike Force Vega have arrested a 16-year-old girl following an aggravated assault that occurred in Alice Springs on 26 December.

Detective Superintendent Travis Wurst said that a man aged 57 was approached by the youth on Lyndavale Drive and assaulted.

“The offender allegedly approached the man from behind and attempted to steal his wallet from his pocket. The man has reached around to stop the offender from taking his wallet, which has resulted in the man being forced into a headlock and then pushed to the ground.

“The man was assisted by two youths who were in the area.

“The man suffered abrasions to his upper left eye and a broken left hand.

The youth was arrested the following day and charged with:

• Aggravated assault
• Assault with intent to steal

She was refused bail and is due to appear in the Alice Springs Youth Court today.
