Police

The Bureau of Meteorology has advised that TC Lam is expected to maintain Category 4 intensity as it moves over the coast near Galiwinku.

Commander David Proctor, Region 2 Controller advises residents on Galiwinku, Milingimbi, Gapuwiyak and Ramingining to remain in shelter as conditions are now at a dangerous level and destructive winds are impacting those areas.

“Residents in areas currently under cyclone WATCH or WARNING are asked to closely consider advice from the Bureau and Emergency Services.

“A Cyclone WARNING is in place for Goulburn Island to Numbulwar, including Nhulunbuy, Groote Eylandt and adjacent inland areas to Bulman, this means your emergency plan should be activated and your shelter preparations are being finalised.

“Maningrida Shelter located at Maningrida School is now open.

“If you DO NOT have accommodation constructed to the Building Code or are unsure of your present accommodation you should decide which public emergency shelter to use and MAY PROCEED to that shelter. You should now have your emergency kit complete and ready and take with you

“A Cyclone WATCH continues from Numbulwar to Port Roper and adjacent inland areas, this means ensuring you’ve got the appropriate plans in place and have your emergency kit ready.

“As part of your preparations, fill bath tubs and any containers with water before the cyclone arrives.

“Do not use chemical or fuel containers to store drinking water.

“Government authorities have a range of plans in place and preparations are well advanced.

“Tune in to your local radio and/or television stations for further information and warnings.”
