Suspicious Death – Alice Springs – Update

Police

Northern Territory Police are actively investigating the overnight suspicious death of a male in Alice Springs.

“At this time, the identity of the deceased has not been formally confirmed, however police have identified several witnesses who are assisting with the investigation,” Detective Superintendent Travis Wurst said.

“No-one has been taken into custody at this time.”

Police will continue to process the crime scene and expect an autopsy of the deceased to be completed tomorrow which will provide further information about a cause of death.

“Regardless, this matter is considered suspicious and a large team of investigators and forensic experts are actively engaged in this operation,” said Supt Wurst.  “Four Detectives from the Darwin-based Major Crime Unit will arrive to join the local investigation team later today.  Police are also seeking any relevant CCTV from nearby businesses that may assist with identifying movements of people in the area.

“We appreciate the response from the public in relation to information they have already offered.  I ask that anyone else with information, no matter how trivial they may consider that information, to contact police on 13144 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

“It is likely the crime scene will remain in place overnight so please avoid the area between Barrett Drive and South Terrace this evening.”
