Police have charged a 21-year-old woman with stealing and drug offences following the seizure of a trafficable quantity of kava at Darwin Airport.

Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Stringer said Police alleged the offender used a stolen motor vehicle and attended several petrol stations before driving off without paying for the petrol earlier this month.

“Police allege the offender attended three service stations in Fannie Bay, Berrimah and Elliott between 11 and 12 April and stole around $275 worth of petrol before driving towards the Queensland border.

“Police also allege the woman returned to Darwin Airport on 16 April and left a parcel containing 20 kilograms of kava unclaimed in the baggage area.” 

Police arrested the woman yesterday and charged her with:

Stealing (x3)

Drive unlicensed

Possess a trafficable quantity of kava

Supply a trafficable quantity of kava

She was bailed to appear in Darwin Magistrates Court on 28 April.
