Police

Strike Force Romulus Detectives have arrested seven people following a two day operation targeting domestic and family violence in Alice Springs.

Detective Superintendent Brent Warren said Police conducted the operation on 9 and 10 April to specifically target domestic violence offenders and to reinforce the message domestic violence will not be tolerated.

“The seven people arrested were charged with a range of offences including aggravated assault, breach of Domestic Violence Order, breach of bail and outstanding warrants.

“Police also conducted 31 Domestic Violence Order and Alcohol Protection Order compliance checks, served seven Domestic Violence Orders, issued two summons notices and took four people into protective custody.

“In a separate incident Police arrested a 19-year-old male on Saturday after he allegedly assaulted his pregnant 20-year-old partner in Alice Springs CBD.”

He was charged with aggravated assault and served a Domestic Violence Order.

He will appear in Alice Springs Magistrates Court on 13 April 2015.

“Police will continue to take a zero tolerance approach to violence of any kind. Safety is everyone’s right and we will hold offenders to account for their actions,” Detective Superintendent Warren said.

Operation Romulus will continue to target the perpetrators of domestic and family violence in the region.
