Social Disturbance - Groote Eylandt - Update #2

Police

Police are continuing investigations into the disturbance at Angurugu yesterday.

Senior Sergeant Alex Brennan, Officer in Charge of Alyangula Police said local Police were assisted by the arrival of response units from Darwin, including four Tactical Response Group members and Police Dog Pax, local Elders and community members.

“No further injuries have been reported from the disturbance. 

“Police have charged five people and investigations will continue into the matter.”

A 44-year-old male charged with:

Armed with an offensive weapon (x2)
Go armed in public (x2)

He was bailed to appear in Alyangula Court.

A 19-year-old male has been charged with:

Armed with an offensive weapon

A 38-year-old female charged with:

Assault member of the Police Force
Resisting Police in execution of duty
Armed with an offensive weapon (x2)
Fight in a public place

She was bailed to appear in Alyangula Court.

A 33-year-old male with:

Go armed in public (x2)
Armed with an offensive weapon (x2)

He was bailed to appear in Alyangula Court.

A 41-year-old male charged with:

Go armed in public (x2)
Armed with an offensive weapon (x2)

He was remanded to appear in Darwin Magistrates Court Friday 15 May.
