Detectives from the Northern Investigation Unit are investigating a sexual assault that occurred in the Ngukurr Community overnight.

“The victim was awoken by an intruder in her room at about 3:00am,” Detective Senior Sergeant Richardson said.

“During the incident, the victim attempted to fight off the offender, and may have caused an injury to his face.”

Police will be conducting forensic tests of the scene.

“This was a cowardly act and Police are putting all available resources into apprehending the attacker with support from the community.

“The offender is described as an aboriginal male, approximately 20 years of age, skinny build, clean shaven and may have a fresh wound to his face.”
