Police have charged a 20-year-old man in relation to the alleged sexual assault of a 31-year-old woman in Nhulunbuy.

Detective Acting Superintendent Scott Manley said Police allege the offender sexually assaulted the woman in the vicinity of the car park on Eugenia Avenue at around 10:45pm, Wednesday 5 August.

“Nhulunbuy General Duty Members arrested the 20-year-old man on Friday.

“Detectives from the Sex Crimes Unit travelled to Nhulunbuy over the weekend and charged the man with:

• Aggravated assault
• Sexual intercourse without consent
• Robbery

“He was remanded in custody and will appear in Darwin Magistrates Court today.”
