Rock Throwing – Charges – Alice Springs

Police

Police have arrested a 22-year-old man following a rock throwing incident yesterday.

Acting Senior Sergeant Mike Williams said Police allege an intoxicated male threw a number of rocks at a taxi on Gap Road at about 5:00pm on Wednesday 7 Oct.

“Police sighted the male a short time later and pursued him on foot through a number of properties, before catching and arresting him on Kempe Street.”

The man was charged with the following:

  • Criminal damage

He was refused bail and held in custody overnight to appear in court in Alice Springs today.

“Fortunately on this occasion no one was injured, however rock throwing has the potential for serious injury whether aimed at a person or moving vehicles,” Acting Senior Sergeant Mike Williams said.

“This is not solely a youth issue and the Alice Springs Police will continue to adopt a zero tolerance approach to rock throwing.

“Any person found engaging in this activity will face prosecution.”
