NT Police continue their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of a Queensland man who went missing in a remote area of Arnhem Land near the Gurrumurru Floodplain late last week.

Senior Sergeant John Worrall from Nhulunbuy Police said the missing man’s body was found in extremely difficult and challenging terrain.  

Police have thanked the large number of community volunteers who joined rangers and TRG personnel in the search for the man.

“The volume of selfless support from volunteers and organisations during and after this search is a resounding testament to the community spirit in this region,” Senior Sergeant Worrall said.

“It is sad that despite the incredible efforts of everyone involved there has been such a tragic conclusion to this search.”
