Missing Person – Kings Canyon – Update #3

Police

Police hold concerns for a woman missing in Central Australia since yesterday morning.

An air and ground search has so far failed to locate the 64-year-old woman.

“We will keep expanding the search area until she is located,” Superintendent Don Fry said.

“The woman and her husband had been camping with friends for a few days at the Salt Creek rest area on Luritja Road.

“Yesterday the couple went for a walk and it appears they had a dispute about the way back to their camp, which resulted in them going in separate directions.

“The husband returned to the campsite; the wife did not. The campers used their car horns and vehicles to call for the wife before the friends drove 100km to Kings Creek Station to raise the alarm.

“Police were initially deployed from Yulara, and have since been joined by Police and NTES personnel from Alice Springs.

“We are very concerned for her welfare, having been out since yesterday morning without provisions,” Superintendent Fry said.

“One freezing night in the desert would have been difficult. If she’s not found before dark she will face a second night with the temperature dropping to about three degrees.”

The woman’s husband has remained at the site and is assisting with the search.
