Methamphetamine Seized – Katherine

Drug Squad detectives have arrested three males and seized a quantity of methamphetamine following a traffic apprehension in Katherine this morning.

Detective Sergeant Ian Kennon from the Substance Abuse Intelligence Desk said the trio were pulled over by Police on Stuart Highway, 2km North of Katherine just before 7:00am.

“Drug Detector Dog Leo gave a positive reaction and upon a search of the vehicle Police located 35 clip seal bags of methamphetamine with a combined weight of 9.1 grams, concealed in a false engine part under the bonnet.

“The alleged offenders age 32, 32 and 29 were arrested and conveyed to Katherine Police Station for questioning.

They have been charged with:

  • Possess methamphetamine – traffickable (x3)
  • Possess methamphetamine – public place (x3)
  • Supply methamphetamine (x3)
  • Possess controlled weapon (x3)

The 29-year-old driver was also charged with:

  • Drive with prohibited drug in blood
  • Fail to produce licence on request

 

Two of the men were remanded in custody to appear in Katherine Magistrates Court on Monday 20 April, the third individual will appear on 5 May.
