Man Charged - Unlawful Entry - Alice Springs

Police

NT Police have charged a 34-year-old man following an unlawful entry at a licensed venue in Todd Street

Detective Senior Sergeant Peter Malley said Police allege the man unlawfully entered the venue in the early hours of 9 December.

“The offender allegedly entered the venue, smashed the bar fridge and stole a carton of beer, causing substantial damage to the property.

“He was found hiding behind a Christmas tree, visibly intoxicated at about 4:40am and was subsequently arrested.

“Detectives had been looking for this person in relation to a number of other recent unlawful entries.”

He was charged with:

  • Unlawful entry x 7
  • Damage to property x 7
  • Stealing x 4
  • Trespass x 1

He was remanded in custody to appear in Alice Springs Magistrates Court today.

“The offender may have been looking for presents, but in reality what he is going to get for Christmas is not under this tree, but in jail,” Detective Senior Sergeant Malley said.

“It is also a timely reminder that not all visitors over Christmas are welcome.”

Residents are advised to take the following precautions to avoid an unwanted presence under your tree this Christmas:

  • Lock your doors, even when at home
  • Don’t leave your wallet and keys where intruders could easily find them
  • Don’t leave your vehicles unlocked
  • Repair any broken security / outdoor lights at your residence
  • If going away, ensure you have someone clearing your mailbox and maintain your yard
  • Secure your valuables

“If you are going away for the holidays, you can register your property with the Neighbourhood Watch NT Absentee Owner Advice form at the Alice Springs Police Station.”
