Man Charged – Attempt to Pervert the Course of Justice

Serious Crime Squad Detectives have charged a 22-year-old male for alleged threatening behaviour and driving offences.

Detective Acting Superintendent Chris Board said Police will allege on 28 October the man attended a residence in Palmerston and threatened a witness over a drug-related matter currently before the courts.

“Later that evening Police attempted to apprehend a stolen motor vehicle travelling along Chung Wah Terrace.

“Upon seeing Police the male driver failed to stop, before mounting a curb and damaging a wheel on the vehicle. The man then fled on foot and was apprehended a short time later.

“On searching the vehicle Police located documents linking him in an attempt to pervert the course of justice.”

He was charged with:

  • Attempt to pervert the course of justice
  • Aggravated unlawful use of a motor vehicle
  • Fail to stop
  • Drive without due care
  • Drive motor vehicle whilst unlicensed
  • Leave scene of an accident.

 He will appear in Darwin Magistrates Court today.
