Man Charged for Assaulting Police Officer - Northern Suburbs

Police

Detectives from Strike Force Trident have charged a 24-year-old man after he allegedly struck a Police Officer with his vehicle during a traffic apprehension in Darwin’s northern suburbs last week.

Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Bland said General Duty members apprehended a Toyota Rav4 at around 11:10pm Friday after it was seen travelling at speed along Rothdale Road and Trower Road.

“Further enquires revealed the driver was unlicensed. Police asked the diver to exit the car to conduct a search inside the vehicle.

“Police allege the male driver accelerated forward striking the leg of one of the Officers before driving away.”

Yesterday members from Strike Force Trident arrested the male and charged him with:

  • Drive a vehicle in a manner that is dangerous
  • Drive a motor vehicle while unlicensed
  • Assault a member of the Police Force
  • Fail to obey direction of a Police Officer

He will appear in Darwin Magistrates Court today.
