Lock It or Lose it Tennant Creek

Police

NT Police would like to remind members of the public to secure their property following a number of unlawful entries and thefts in Tennant Creek recently.

Acting Superintendent Des Green of the Tennant Creek and Barkly Division said that with some extra effort by occupants, we can prevent this from happening.

Over the last two weeks in the Tennant Creek area, there have been two thefts of unsecured property and four unlocked homes unlawfully entered.

“By implementing just a few simple steps we can make life difficult for these opportunistic thieves.”

Residents should:

  • Secure your property inside your residence or use a chain if it is kept outside.
  • Lock your homes when no one is home and secure them at night time before going to bed.
  • Always lock your vehicle and ensure valuable items are not left in your car within view of others.
  • Ensure that you don’t leave personal/valuable items unattended in places such as clubs, pubs and other public locations.

“As a lot of these offences appear to be opportunistic in nature, the risk could be reduced by taking some simple precautions to ensure that the opportunity is not available.

“Anyone with information regarding stolen property are encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000,” said A/Superintendent Green.
