Police have charged a 24-year-old man following a kava seizure at Darwin Airport last night.

Detective Senior Sergeant Clint Sims said Members from the Northern Substance Abuse Intelligence Desk conducted screenings of passengers and luggage at around midnight.

“Drug Detector Dog April provided a positive response to the man’s luggage and Police seized 23 kilograms of kava.

“He was arrested and charged with possess and supply a trafficable quantity of kava.

“He was remanded in custody and will appear in Darwin Magistrates Court today.

“Police estimate that if the kava was sold in remote communities if could have fetched around $23,000.”
