Juveniles Apprehended – Unlawful Damage – Karama

Police

Northern Territory Police attended a callout to an address in Karama last night in response to a report of unlawful entry and property damage by young offenders.

On arrival witnesses told Police the youths had fled the scene. They were located a short time later at Karama shops, by a dog operations unit and general duties officers responding to the incident.

Three of the youths, aged 7, 8 and 9 made admissions to throwing rocks and breaking the windows at a residence in Wearing Crescent while the fourth youth, aged 13, denied any knowledge of the incident. The youths were conveyed to their places of residence and spoken to in the company of their carers.

NT Police report the incidents of rock throwing and youth disturbances in the Karama area have decreased over the last couple of days due to the placement of the newly-acquired mobile CCTV cameras at the Karama Shopping Centre at the request of the Officer in Charge of the Casuarina Police Station.

“The CCTV cameras are monitored 24 hours a day,” Acting Senior Sergeant Tanya Mace. “Any person captured on the CCTV cameras engaging in anti-social behaviour can expect a visit from the local Police officers regarding their inappropriate behaviour.”
