Police

The Bureau of Meteorology issued a flood warning for the Daly River community this morning.

The Daly River Emergency Plan has been activated and the community is prepared for a flood event.

“Predictions are that the community will experience minor flooding today, and that water levels will continue to rise,” said Region 2 Controller Commander Bruce Porter.

“It is possible that a moderate flood level will be declared overnight. Further rain is expected today and tomorrow, and we are preparing for the potential that waters may rise to major flood levels sometime on Saturday night.

“At this stage no evacuations are planned however we are asking the community to be vigilant and to listen to warnings and advice and be prepared to move when required.

“Please ensure that you take sufficient food and water to sustain yourself and your family. Everyone is requested to avoid travel to the area.”
