A 40-year-old female has died following a fatal motor vehicle crash in Darwin overnight.

Senior Sergeant Mark Casey from the Major Crash Investigation Unit said Police were called to the incident on the Stuart Highway, Berrimah around 7:30pm last night.

“It is alleged a 40-year-old female has run onto the road and been struck by a passing motor vehicle. Tragically she passed away at the scene.”

A 65-year-old male driver was arrested at the scene and investigations are continuing.

A file will be prepared for the Coroner.

The Territory road toll now stands at 12.
