The Northern Territory road toll has risen to 39 following a single vehicle crash on Ilparpa Road early this morning.

Superintendent Bob Rennie said there were two people involved in the crash and unfortunately the female passenger passed away at the scene.

 “The male driver was taken to Alice Springs Hospital to receive treatment for his injuries.

 “Members from the Major Crash investigation Unit are investigating and enquiries are continuing to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the crash.”

Ilparpa Road will remain closed while the scene is under investigation.

Traffic diversions are in place along Larapinta Highway and motorists are advised to follow directions and if possible avoid the area.”

 A file will be prepared for the Coroner.

 The Northern Territory road toll for the same time last year stood at 35.
