Fatal – Barkley Highway

The Territory road toll has risen to 21 following the death of a 35-year-old male.

Acting Territory Duty Superintendent Brendan Muldoon said at 2:30am Police, Fire and St John Ambulance responded to a fatal motor vehicle accident on the Barkley Highway 125 kilometres from of the Three Ways turnoff.

“It appears a Holden Astra has struck live stock before veering off the road into scrubland.

“Unfortunately the front male passenger passed away at the scene. The male driver was airlifted to Alice Springs Hospital where he is currently in a critical condition.

“Two other female passengers were transported to Tennant Creek Hospital where they are receiving treatment for minor head injuries.”

Police will now prepare a report for the Coroner.
