Ex-Tropical Cyclone Nathan Update 26

Ex-Tropical Cyclone Nathan has weakened below tropical cyclone strength over the northwest Arnhem District.

All watches and warnings are now cancelled and shelters have been closed.

“An assessment team is currently on Goulburn Island to survey Warruwi and make recommendations to get residents home as soon as we safely can,” said A/Assistant Commissioner Michael Murphy.

“Maningrida residents have left the shelter to return to their homes. 220 people used the public shelter last night, while the rest of the community took cover in cyclone-rated homes. There are 17 NT Emergency Services volunteers on hand to assist with clean-up operations as they get under way in the community.

“A Boil Water Alert remains in place in Galiwinku.”

Flood Watch

The Bureau of Meteorology advises that a flood watch has been issued for the Arnhem and Carpentaria Coastal Rivers.

Severe Weather

Winds near the centre of Ex-Tropical Cyclone Nathan have eased below gale force.

However DAMAGING WIND GUSTS and HEAVY RAIN, which may lead to flash flooding, are expected over parts of the Arnhem District
