Police would like to thank for visitors to Alice Springs who attended the AFL Central Australia Lightning Cup carnival for their behaviour across the long weekend.

Superintendent of Alice Springs Travis Wurst said spectator behaviour at the football was excellent with only a couple of small disturbances within the ground and about ten people refused entry due to intoxication.

“Across the Easter weekend, Police maintained a strong presence across licensed take away outlets which resulted in keeping anti-social behaviour to a minimum.

“Police also maintained a night time presence in the CBD area across the weekend to focus on youth activity.  Despite large numbers of youth gathering in the CBD, only a few incidents were reported to police.

“Police also had a strong traffic presence on the roads leading up to and during the weekend. Six people were arrested for drink driving offences with one driver reaching high range (0.205% BAC). 89 Traffic Infringement Notices were issued with the majority for speeding and seat belt offences.

“Disappointingly, there was a spate of graffiti across Gillen and Araluen on Saturday night with five separate reports of paint being sprayed with ‘tags’ being painted on various buildings and cars in the area. Araluen Arts Centre was the hardest hit with graffiti across several walls, benches and glasses doors. The clean-up cost may reach into the thousands of dollars,” Superintendent Wurst said.
