Northern Territory Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding a house fire which claimed the life of a 78-year-old female overnight

Duty Superintendent Shaun Furniss said just before 9:00pm Police received a report of a house fire in the community of Dagaragu, 480km south west of Katherine.

“Kalkarindji Police attended and the fire was extinguished, however tragically a deceased female was located within the property.

“A crime scene has been established and investigators from the Northern Territory Fire and Rescue Service, Major Crime, Northern Investigations and Forensic crime scene from Darwin and Katherine are on route to the location.”

Investigations are continuing.
