A 40-year-old man has been arrested in South Australia for the alleged assault of a 41-year-old woman in Alice Springs.
Police allege the man assaulted his partner on 17 September before fleeing to the APY Lands.
Detective Sergeant Andrew Bedwell said that police in Ernabella, South Australia, acted on information provided by the Cross Border Domestic Violence Intelligence Desk and arrested the alleged offender in the evening on 21 September.
“This arrest is a positive example of how the new Cross Border Team is working to reduce violent crime, by targeting offenders who think they can flee across the border to escape capture and prosecution.
“The success of this arrest is directly contributed to the involved parties, the Cross Border Team, Strike Force Romulus and the Ernabella Police.
“The CBT will continue reduce violent crime and target criminal networks by tracking down known violent offenders who flee to remote cross-border communities as well as those involved in the supply of illicit substances to remote communities.”
Domestic violence will not be tolerated and we encourage members of the public to take a stand against this unacceptable behaviour and report all acts of domestic violence to the Police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or in an emergency call 000.
