A 22-year-old man has been charged following a single vehicle crash in The Narrows early yesterday morning.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Brendan Lindner of the Major Crash Investigation Section said the male driver was traveling in the outbound lanes of the Stuart Highway at around 2:30am when he lost control of the vehicle and crashed.

“A 27-year-old male passenger in the back tray of the Toyota LandCruiser was thrown from the vehicle and suffered serious head injuries. He was transported to Royal Darwin Hospital by St John Ambulance and remains in a serious but stable condition.

“Police will allege speed and alcohol were factors in the crash. The 22-year-old driver was arrested at the scene.”

Drive motor vehicle cause serious harm

Drive vehicle in a manner dangerous

High range drink driving (.203%)

Carry an adult in an open load space of vehicle

Exceed speed limit (105/70)

Drive an unregistered motor vehicle

Drive an uninsured motor vehicle

Drive a vehicle while unlicensed.

He was bailed to appear in Darwin Magistrates Court on 12 May.
