Northern Territory Police have laid more than 500 charges against a woman in relation to ongoing criminal deception and theft over a period of two years.

The 23-year-old woman was employed in Alice Springs by a telecommunications company as a retail operations specialist in August 2012. Between May 2013 and January 2015 it is alleged that she falsified a number records in the point of sale system in order to steal mobile phones.

“The phones were then listed for sale online,” Detective A/Senior Sergeant Leith Phillips said.

“Once payment had been received, she then sent the phones to her buyers around Australia.”

In February 2015 the woman’s employment was terminated after the business discovered that she had falsified records and had sold a number of phones online.

Southern Investigation Division Detectives arrested the woman in Alice Springs today. She participated in an interview but declined to comment in relation to these offences.

She has been charged with:

• false accounting (x 48)
• criminal deception (x 258)
• stealing (x 214)

The total amount of her theft totals $203,701.16.

She has been bailed to appear in Alice Springs Magistrates Court on 8 December 2015.
