Buffalo Shot Call for Public Assistance

Police

Northern Territory Police are appealing to the public for information regarding the shooting of four buffalo at the Beatrice Hill Research Station on the weekend.

Police received a report that three valuable purebred Riverine buffalo bulls had been found shot dead at the farm on Saturday morning 28 February. Two had been dismembered. A fourth animal was later found with gunshot wounds and had to be euthanised by staff.

“Residents on the property did not report hearing any gunshots,” Sergeant Paul Wood said.

“The animals were located close to the Arnhem Highway near Windows on the Wetlands, and may have even been shot from the road. Given the location, it is possible that someone saw something.

“This is a very serious matter and these sorts of incidents will not be tolerated.

“We are appealing to anyone with information to contact Police on 131 444 or alternatively the Animal Welfare Branch on 1300 720 386.”
