Breach of Bail Arrest – Wanguri

Police

NT Police officers attending a Wanguri home last night to arrest a man in breach of his home detention order were verbally abused and had items thrown at them by other occupants of the house.

Police were contacted by Corrections officials who were trying to track down a 25-year-old man whose tracking device indicated he had moved from the address where his home detention order stipulated he should remain.

Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Stringer from Strike Force Trident said police were met with resistance from the man’s family, before members – including dog operations units – were pelted with various objects.

“The man was arrested without offering any resistance, but during the search, entry and exit Police were abused and threatened verbally by 15 to 20 occupants of the house,” he said.

“One of the family members spat at the Police dog.

“As members returned to their vehicles, multiple missiles – including a timber post, several beer bottles, balls and bags of rubbish – were hurled at officers, striking one in the foot. She was uninjured.”

The man was held in custody to appear before Darwin Magistrates Court today.

Investigations are continuing and further charges may be laid.
