Body Located – Missing Man – Alice Springs

Police

Police have recovered the body of the missing 24-year-old man, last seen swimming in a flooded waterway last night.

Superintendent Travis Wurst of the Alice Springs Division said two men aged 30 and 24 attended Wigleys Gorge at around 7pm.

“The men entered the water with floatation devices and within a short distance, encountered fast flowing water where they both came into difficulty.

“The 24-year-old man disappeared and the incident was reported to Police a short time later.

“Police and NT Emergency Service personnel searched into the night and recommenced the search at first light today.

“At around 10:20am the man’s body was located about 1.7 km south of Wigleys Gorge in the Todd River bed.

“I would like to thank all Police, NT Emergency Service and Parks and Wildlife personnel who were heavily involved in the search,” Superintendent Wurst said.

Police will now prepare a report for the Coroner.
