Assault Police

Police

Police have arrested two males and a female following two separate incidents where Police were assaulted while on patrol.

Territory Duty Superintendent Del Jones said just after 1:30 am Police attended Hartley Street in Alice Springs following reports of a trespasser.

"A 62-year-old male was arrested by Police and while he was being handed his blanket he spat in the face of the arresting officer. He was charged with aggravated assault and breach of an Alcohol Protection Order.

“In a separate incident, two Katherine Police members were assaulted while attending to a disturbance on Katherine Terrace at 2:00am.

“It is alleged a 34-year-old female approached the Police vehicle, opened the passenger door and began hitting an attending officer.

“While she was being arrested, the second officer was assaulted by a 41-year-old male.

“Both were conveyed to Katherine Watch House and are expected to be charged later today.

“We are absolutely disgusted by this kind of behaviour. Police officers are working hard to protect the community. They should not have to face this type of treatment when they are simply trying to do their job.”
