Members from Strike Force Romulus have charged a 31-year-old man following the alleged assault of his 33-year-old partner.

Acting Sergeant Caragh Hen said Police allege the offender used a weapon to strike the woman at a residence in Alice Springs at around 11pm Wednesday.

“Three women aged 34, 40 and 54 who were nearby were alerted to the disturbance and disarmed the offender.

“The victim was taken to Alice Springs Hospital to receive treatment for injuries to her head.”

The 31-year-old man was arrested and was charged with unlawfully cause serious harm.

He was remanded in custody and will appear in Alice Springs Magistrates Court today.

“The women who intervened showed the importance of saying no to domestic violence and demonstrated bravery in this circumstance. Without their intervention the outcome could have been much worse,” Acting Sergeant Hen said.

“Everyone has a responsibility to report domestic violence. If you are a victim of domestic violence or if you suspect domestic violence may be occurring, please call Police on 131 444.”
