Strike Force Trident members have arrested an 18-year-old male following an aggravated unlawful entry at a retirement village.
Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Stringer said it is alleged the offender unlawfully entered a property at the complex on Sunday morning.
“It is alleged he stole a mobile phone, a wallet, alcohol and a walking stick before fleeing in the victim’s car.
“Later that day, Police located the stolen motor vehicle burnt out on a dirt track in Alawa.
“Further investigations lead Police to a property close to where the burnt out car was located.
“The alleged offender was found hiding in a bed room at the property, he was arrested and charged with:
- Arson
- Aggravated Unlawful Entry
- Stealing
- Trespass
- Aggravated unlawful use of a motor vehicle
- Breach of bail
He will appear in Darwin Magistrates Court today.
“Another good result arresting this offender. You have to ask yourself, what kind of person breaks into an aged care facility, steals an old ladies walking stick and car and then destroys the car by burning it. This is very disturbing,” said Detective Senior Sergeant Stringer.
