Armed Person Arrested - Tennant Creek

NT Police arrested a 33-year-old man early this morning in Tennant Creek in relation to being armed with a weapon in public and assaulting Police.

Acting Superintendent Des Green said General Duties Police Officers observed the man drinking alcohol in a restricted area.

“The Officers seized the alcohol and attempted to issue an infringement notice when the man confronted them.

“Police allege the man ran at them, and when given direction to stop, he turned to his vehicle and armed himself with a knife.

“The Officers again directed the man to stop and drop the weapon. This time he complied walked back into his house.

The man was arrested at scene and is currently in the custody of Tennant Creek Police. It is expected he will be charged today.

“This type of behaviour is unacceptable in the community,” A/Superintendent Green said.

“When confronted with the situation the Police Officers involved displayed professionalism and went about their duties to achieve to the best possible outcome.”
