Ambulance Officer Assaulted - Man Charged - Alice Springs

Police

Alice Springs Police have charged an 18-year-old male following the alleged assault of a St John Ambulance Paramedic last night.

Acting Superintendent Virginia Read said a St John Ambulance was travelling along the Stuart Highway when they observed a male sitting on the road near Palm Circuit at around 9:00pm.

“The two Paramedics stopped to provide assistance and it is alleged the male assaulted the female Ambulance Officer and threw rocks at both of the paramedics.”

The 18-year-old was arrested by Police a short time later and charged with:

  • Assault a worker
  • Disorderly behaviour
  • Resist Police

He has been remanded in custody and will appear in Alice Springs Magistrates Court today.

“This was a cowardly attack on two professionals dedicated to helping others no one should be subjected to this type of violence, and it is completely unacceptable for emergency responders to be attacked when doing their job,” Acting Superintendent Read said.
