Youth Arrested following Unlawful Entries - Alice Springs

Police

Detectives from Strike Force Vega have arrested and charged a 16-year-old youth with three counts of aggravated unlawful entry, damage to property and stealing.

Acting Commander Brent Warren said items such as wedding rings, cash and electronic equipment were stolen while residents of the three properties were out.

“An observant off-duty Police Officer saw two youths acting suspiciously in the area.

“Police spoke to the two youths and found an iPod and iPad in nearby bushes.

“The items were forensically tested and Police arrested one of the youths yesterday,” Acting Commander Warren said.

“Many of these crimes are opportunistic and residents are urged to consider their own household security.

“Even when you are home you should be aware of where items of value have been placed, including car keys, doors and windows are secure and you are not making it easy for thieves to steal your possessions.

Acting Commander Warren said Detectives are also investigating two unlawful entries that occurred yesterday in The Gap and in Gillen.

“The houses were entered illegally during daylight hours and observant neighbours have informed Police of suspicious people in the area.

“Items such as money and alcohol were stolen by unknown offenders described as ‘teenaged males wearing black clothing’.

“Anyone with information is urged to contact the Police Assistance Line on 131 444 or the information can be passed on anonymously by calling Crime Stoppers on 1300 333 000.

“Strike Force Vega has achieved 199 arrests in relation to 1,230 offences this calendar year and we will continue to work with the community to keep Alice Springs a safe place to live and work.”
