Northern Territory Police are calling for witnesses to come forward following an assault on Mitchell Street, near the corner of Knuckey Street, just before 2am this morning.

Detective Acting Sergeant Eric Curriez said a 32-year-old man was assaulted while attempting to call Police.

“The man had witnessed an earlier incident and was in the process of contacting Police when he saw Officers from the Mounted Police Unit nearby.

“As he made contact with the Mounted Officers and pointed out the alleged suspects he was set upon by these same individuals.

“Police have arrested an 18-year-old male and a 25-year-old male.”

Detective Acting Sergeant Curriez said several people in the area witnessed the incident.

“We believe onlookers may have been taking photos or video with their phones and we ask that they assist Police in this investigation by making the images available to Detectives.
