Two Youths Charged Following Crime Spree - Darwin

Strike Force Trident Detectives have charged two youths following a crime spree in Darwin and Palmerston over the weekend.

Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Stringer said a 15-year-old female and a 17-year-old male allegedly stole six vehicles between Friday night and Tuesday morning.

“The two offenders allegedly stole a Holden Commodore from a residence in Gunn and drove the vehicle to a service station in Durack on Friday night.

“Police allege the offenders stole $73 worth of petrol before reversing the Commodore at speed and colliding with a 21-year-old man.

“The offenders fled the scene and the vehicle was witnessed driving at high speed down Tiger Brennan Drive. Police recovered the vehicle the next day in Rosebery.

“Police also allege the two youths stole a Toyota Landcruiser from a residence in Jingili and a Toyota Corolla from a residence in Stuart Park on Sunday.

“Police located the burnt out Toyota Corolla in Holtz, the Toyota Landcruiser remains outstanding.

“The alleged offenders unlawfully entered a residence in Fannie Bay on Monday morning and stole five bottles of spirits valued at $300 and a Subaru.

“Police alleged the youths used the Subaru to ram open the gates of a car yard in Winnellie early Tuesday morning and stole a Toyota Hilux and Toyota Corolla.

“Police located the Subaru in Winnellie which has sustained extensive damage. The Toyota Hilux and Toyota Corolla remain outstanding.

The pair were arrested by Police yesterday.

The 15-year-old was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a motor vehicle (x3).

The 17-year-old was remanded in custody and charged with:

Aggravated unlawful use of a motor vehicle (x6)

Stealing (x5)

Aggravated unlawful entry (x4)

Recklessly endangering serious harm

Fail to obey directions of Police Officer

Drive in a manner that is dangerous

Drive unlicensed

Breach of bail.

They will appear in Darwin Youth Justice Court on Friday, 6 June.

Three more youths were arrested this morning in relation to the crime spree and are assisting Police with their enquiries.

“Police again urge people to lock their vehicles and homes and make sure car keys are kept in a safe place,” Detective Senior Sergeant Stringer said.

“Valuables and belongings in vehicles should also be kept out of sight from the temptation of thieves, who will often seize any opportunity to steal items and the vehicle.”
