Suspicious Person Jingili

Police

Northern Territory Police are investigating an incident which occurred in Jingili this afternoon.

Duty Superintendent Stephen Heyworth said it is alleged a male driving an older model red coloured Ute approached a 7-year-old boy as he rode home from school on Knowles Street, Jingili between 2:45 and 3pm.

“The boy told Police the suspicious male offered him a lift home. When the boy refused the driver had a further conversation to entice the boy, however the boy rode away.

The driver has followed him briefly before making a U-turn and driving off in the direction of the Jingili shops.

Duty Superintendent Heyworth said Police would like to talk to anyone who may have seen a man in the vicinity of Knowles Street between 230 and 330pm this afternoon. The male is described as tanned in appearance, skinny build with a bald head and a black moustache. He was described as wearing a white horizontal striped t-shirt with ¾ denim shorts and thongs.

The older red coloured Ute was believed to have a black coloured tarp covering the vehicle tray.

“High visibility Police patrols have been conducted around the area”.

“The behaviour is concerning and Police would like to speak with anyone who may have information about the incident. Contact Police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.”

“Police would also like to take this opportunity to encourage all parents across the Territory to sit down with their children and remind them of the four ‘R’s:

Recognise the danger

Refuse any offer

Run away

Report it to the first adult they trust,” Duty Superintendent Heyworth said.
