Strike Force Viridian Targets Domestic Violence

Members from Strike Force Viridian have made more than 40 arrests during the first five weeks of an operation targeting domestic and family violence in Darwin, Palmerston and the Rural Area.

Detective Acting Superintendent Bradley Currie said since the inception of Strike Force Viridian 25 November, Strike Force investigators have made 41 arrests resulting in 74 charges.

Some of the arrests made include:

“A 37-year-old man arrested for repeatedly breaching a Domestic Violence Order against a 34-year-old woman.

“A 23-year-old man arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting his 19-year-old partner.

“Strike Force Viridian will continue throughout 2014 and investigators will continue to target domestic violence in line with the principals of The Northern Territory Domestic Violence Strategy - Project Respect – Enforce, Engage and Empower.

“Every woman and child has the right to a safe environment and this type of offending will not be tolerated. Police are committed to ensure perpetrators are held accountable for their actions and placed before the courts.”
