Strike Force Viridian – 150 Arrests

Police

This week Strike Force Viridian has seen its 150th arrest since its inception late last year.

Detective Senior Sergeant Neil Hayes said the strike force commenced on White Ribbon Day, 25 November 2013 and was specifically established to target recidivist domestic and family violence offenders across the Darwin region.

“The operation has now made 152 arrests, resulting in a total of 359 charges being laid for domestic violence related offences. Officers have also issued 50 Domestic Violence Orders and 36 Alcohol Protection Orders.

“As a recent example of the work our members do, a 48-year-old man was arrested and charged, having been captured on CCTV footage on Smith Street assaulting his female partner.

“In another incident a 32-year-old man was tracked down just days after assaulting his partner near a shopping complex in Palmerston, which resulted in her being hospitalised.

“We are committed to targeting domestic and family violence offenders and as such, Strike Force Viridian, which was originally intended to run for six months, has now been extended through to the end of the year,” Detective Senior Sergeant Hayes said.
