A 25-year-old man has been arrested after an alleged sexual assault that occurred in a city park yesterday.
Detective Senior Sergeant Bradley Currie, Officer in Charge of the Sex Crimes Squad, confirmed that the incident was reported to Police in the early hours of yesterday morning.
“The man, who was not known to the victim, was apprehended at the scene of the offence,” Detective Senior Sergeant Currie said.
“Police were notified of the assault by a witness and attended the scene, taking the alleged offender into custody immediately.
“We would like to thank the witnesses who noticed something suspicious and waved down a passing Police vehicle, enabling Police to apprehend the offender without delay.”
The offender has been charged with sexual intercourse without consent and will appear in the Darwin Magistrates Court today.
