Police from the Northern Substance Abuse Intelligence Desk (NSAID) have seized over $80,000 worth of cannabis during an operation over the weekend.

Detective Senior Sergeant Peter Schiller said Police conducted checks on vehicles entering Arnhem Land last Friday night for the Manigrida Football Grand Final.

“Police apprehended seven vehicles with Drug Detector Dog Quella uncovering a total of 800 grams of cannabis hidden under car seats, inside cushions and inside the underwear of 26-year-old man.

“He was issued a drug notice to appear for possession of cannabis in a public place.

“Police also seized 20 cartons of beer and 35 bottles of spirits

“Police were generally pleased with the public’s behaviour at the Grand Final, with no major incidents to report, which may not have been the case had the drugs and alcohol reached the event.

“Police will continue to target those who bring illicit substances into remote communities and warn you will be caught.”
