Drug Squad Detectives yesterday raided a property backing onto a suburban school and discovered a clandestine amphetamine laboratory set-up in a tradesman trailer.
A 48-year-old Ludmilla man was arrested at the scene and remains in custody.
Detectives later raided another property in the rural area where further manufacturing equipment was seized.
The man has been charged with;
- Manufacture a schedule one substance
- Possess manufacturing equipment
- Possess precursor chemicals
- Possess documents containing instructions to manufacture
Detective Senior Sergeant Peter Schiller of the Drug and Organised Crime Squad said that Police were concerned with the location of the laboratory.
“Of particular concern is that this potentially deadly activity was taking place in a quiet family street with a school next door. There has obviously been scant regard for the safety of the neighbourhood children. I would encourage anyone with information about this type of activity to contact Police immediately.”
“This crude lab used to manufacture illicit substances again highlights that drugs of this nature are not produced under pharmaceutical conditions and do pose a real health risk.”
Anyone with information relating to the manufacture or distribution of dangerous drugs are urged to contact police on 131444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
