Pistol, Ammunition Seized - Darwin

Police

Strike Force Lincoln Members have arrested and charged a 40-year-old man with weapon offences after a loaded pistol was allegedly found in his vehicle.

Detective Superintendent Clint Sims said the man was apprehended on the Stuart Highway in Berrimah yesterday afternoon.

“A Toyota Kluger was apprehended by Police and the driver identified as a member of an Outlaw Motorcycle Gang.

“A search was subsequently conducted on the vehicle.

“Police will allege a .38 calibre semi-automatic pistol and 40 rounds of ammunition were found in the boot of the vehicle.

“The man has been charged with possession of an unregistered firearm, possess firearm without a licence and possess ammunition without a licence.”

Detective Superintendent Sims said it was a good result for Police.

“A weapon of this nature is not usually associated with good intention.

“Without doubt Darwin is a little bit safer today because of this seizure.”

The man was bailed to appear in the Darwin Magistrates Court today.
