Operation Targets Domestic Violence Offenders

Police

Alice Springs Police have wrapped up a two day operation focussing on domestic violence offenders and outstanding warrants.

Detective Senior Sergeant Peter Dash said members from Strike Force Romulus conducted the Operation between 23 and 24 October 2014.

“The Operation included Police Officers from Northern Territory and Western Australia and staff from the Cross Border Domestic Violence Intelligence Desk.

“Focussing on removing high risk domestic violence offenders from the streets by targeting those with current Domestic Violence Orders and/or Alcohol Protection Orders, Strike Force Romulus also monitored court imposed bail conditions to ensure compliance.

“The Cross Border Justice Act (CBJA) operates across three Australian jurisdictions – Northern Territory, Western Australia and South Australia. The CBJA enables Police to exercise powers no matter where the offender may be.

“Using powers contained in the Cross Border Justice Act, three offenders were arrested in Alice Springs for outstanding warrants in Western Australia and South Australia.”

The men aged 21, 24 and 47 appeared in Alice Springs Magistrates Court yesterday.

“Police would like to remind those who choose to engage in offending, particularly those who commit acts of domestic violence, that ‘beyond the border is not beyond the law’. If you choose to do the wrong thing the Police will come after you,” Detective Senior Sergeant Dash said.

“Domestic violence will not be tolerated and we continue to encourage members of the public to take a stand against this unacceptable behaviour and report all acts of domestic violence to the Police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.”
