Strike Force Trident Detectives have charged a 37-year-old man with drug and traffic offences following a traffic apprehension in the Northern Suburbs yesterday.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Mark Bland said Police observed a Nissan sedan driving erratically outbound along Bagot Road at around 2:30pm.

“Police allege the driver of the Nissan Sedan nearly collided with a Police vehicle before swerving into the left lane and speeding away.

“Police apprehended the vehicle on Bagot Road. The driver was subjected to a road side drug test and returned a positive result.

“The male was arrested and conveyed to Royal Darwin Hospital however refused to submit to a blood test.

“Police conducted a search of the vehicle and located a kitchen knife, baseball bat and an iron bar as well as 2.5 grams of methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, scales and sim cards.

These items were seized by Police.

The male was charged with:

Possess trafficable quantity of schedule one drug (methamphetamine)

Supply methamphetamine

Self administer dangerous drug

Possess controlled weapon

Drive in a manner that is dangerous

Fail to indicate while changing lanes

Exceeded the speed limit (95 in an 80 zone)

Drive unlicensed

Drive unregistered

Drive uninsured

Drive an unsafe motor vehicle

Drive under the influence of drugs

Refuse to submit to a blood test

He was refused Police bail and will appear in Darwin Magistrates Court at a later date.
